API standard gate valve is a fully open or fully closed valve. The API standard gate valve controls the medium flow in the pipeline. When the disc is closed, it prevents the medium flow. When the disc is open, the medium can pass through the valve. API standard gate valve can only be fully opened or fully closed, not half opened.
